So many new things are on the horizon, I'm excited and terrified. Life is so full of opportunities, and I say grab em! Run with it, try it out and see if it works for you. Right now, as I sit here I'm stirring over an opportunity that I dived into head first and now I have no choice but to sit back and see what happens. I'm planning to post on Tuesday and let you all in on the scoop!
I have a few big shows coming up this summer that are very exciting. The first being the Guelph Art on the Street Festival. I did this show in 2002, my first art festival ever... and of course in my hometown. I love Guelph, and I love doing this show because I get to see all my old friends and of course my family. I haven't done this show in the last four years as it usually conflicts with other shows in Toronto, but this year I made it a priority and I couldn't be happier. Join me on July 13th, 10am-5pm for art in Guelph! The historic downtown Guelph is filled with beautiful little shops and cafes, so its a win win for visitors. Hope to see you there!
As for my other shows... I'll keep you posted, dates are being confirmed and art supplies are arriving at my door.

Spring? Almost... I feel it just around the corner, crocuses, tulips, muddy yards... I love it all. This spring is bringing about some new growth for myself as well, I've started an arts collective with four other talented women and we'll be launching our first group show in May! Femme Five Art Collective consists of Suzanne Ernst, Aleks Rdest, Sarah Hillock, Ann Shier and myself. More will be posted on this group and our show soon.
Up next, I'll be participating in a one day show, the Kingsway-Lambton 16th Annual Fundraiser Show on Saturday, April 6th 10am-4pm. Its a great one day event with thirty-two painters, photographers, sculptures and other wonderful artists. This year is teaming with new shows, new travels and new directions. Can't wait to share all of it with you!

Here is a little sneak peek on what's new at the Artist Project this year....  I have some 9x38's (my new favourite size), a new 18x18 and plenty of small pieces to check out. I also have my favourite piece from 2012... a piece I've considered keeping as I love it so much... come out and see it for yourself!

Empty boards awaiting photo prints, paint and beeswax... The Artist Project preparations are well under way as the show is just over two weeks away. As the mini landscapes were such a hit at the One of a Kind Show, I'm bringing them back for the AP show and am excited to be dipping into some of my latest photo collections... lots of trees, fog and snow.
If you're able to come out on Feb 21st for opening night, its a lot of fun and is a great chance to get first dibs on the work you love. The next three days will be packed and the show will be in full swing. I'm at booth 738 and my husband Dave Marshak is showing directly across from me (yay!), so come visit us both!

Thank you ART BOMB for hosting my piece, Crabapple Reaching this past week in your art auction! Art Bomb hosts one Canadian artist's work every day in their auction. This a great place to find new art and artists! My work has only graced their website once so far, but after a successful first show and sale, we will definitely be working together in the future. Stay tuned for the next one!
Just a heads up, the Artist Project is right around the corner, so if you're not on my mailing list, be sure to check out the details on my events page. I'm working on some new pieces for the show and can't wait for their reveal, so hopefully I see you there!

The One of a Kind Show has wrapped up and my studio is finally getting back in order, what a whirlwind of a month. The OOAK show is always just as amazing as it is exhausting! Currently I am working on a number of commissions and will be completing them over the next few weeks, which is always fun and it gives me time to brainstorm about the next body of work.
Next up, the Artist Project beginning February 21st at the Better Living Centre. Its my favourite show of the year so I hope you can all make it out! Until then, I'll be puttering around the studio, playing with new ideas and creating new work. If you have any questions, commission inquiries, or would like to come up to Cannington  for a studio visit (1.5hrs north-east of Toronto), don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a happy holiday!

First day at the One of a Kind Show Toronto 2012 done. What a day. After months of working every day in preparation and running around with last minute errands, supply runs, studio binges etc... today I sit in my little 10x10 booth with nothing to do but smile. Sadly, this quick change in pace seems to trick the body into thinking the work is done and now it's time to recouperate! No! Put away those thoughts of sleep, have a strong cup of tea, and get crack'n! There are 10 more days of work yet to do. Thankfully, as long as friends stop by once in while, a quick run through the show is an amazing chance to inspire and revitalize the soul. Tonight I got my second, or possibly third wind just in time to pack up and drive to Guelph.
Now I'm turning in for the night and thinking of tomorrow, ideas for display changes brewing in my mind. See you all soon! Booth L-23.

The work is done, the wire is strung and all is wrapped and packed. Tomorrow is a day for labels, van packing and checklists.
I wasn't entirely convinced this could be pulled off actually, with a one year old and all... I was hopeful though! And thank goodness for that. Also, thank goodness for the the friends who are willing to help with the monotonous and never ending sanding, painting, wiring and wrapping :)
I'm bringing some great new work to the show this week including some new sizes - check out the 5x7's in the photo.
See you all soon! Booth L-23

The paint brushes are out and the pot of molten beeswax is filling the studio with a sweet smell. There are more small doors, windows and landscapes than I can count and some beautiful pieces that take up an entire wall. A bit of everything is always a good idea, and it allows me to be my indecisive self.
As the work is well under way, and the One of a Kind Show is right around the corner, let me know if you want to swing by the studio for a preview. If this year is anything like last, these small pieces are going to fly off the wall quicker than I can replace them so now is the time to pick your favourite!

The the third annual Taylor Statten Bursary Show Ontario Distilled, at the Evergreen Brickworks was amazing. I'm so honored to be part of this show yet again, hanging my work next to some of Canada's best. This year, I attended the show with my photographer friend and studio mate, Kelly Stacey, and even though our bellies were full with road side poutine, we partook in the food and wine as it all looked so delicious.
This year's show had a wonderful flow to it with beautiful collections of small works interspersed with large landscapes. There was a giant piece by Rob Saley of beautiful birds that would be amazing in large loft. There were also some incredible landscapes by a variety of artists that I absolutely loved. At events like these, I wish my wall space was not quite so limited, I have such a love for large scale landscape. My hubby, David Marshak stole the show with an impressive collection of work that sent red dots flying.
Thankyou to everyone who came out Thursday evening, it was a great success and I couldn't be happier. My two newest pieces from the west coast sold, Through Mountains & Valleys and Sunset over Birch, as well as some favorites from this past spring, so that feels great. Over the next few weeks I will be working on selecting images to work with for the next show... so stay tuned. November will be here before we know it and the One of a Kind Show is no small feat to prepare for. Stay tuned for updates and studio previews.
