Looking for Something Small?
Posted on February 17, 2012
As many of you already know, I often have a number of small pieces starting at $50 for quick and easy gift giving or for filling that small space in your home that’s just begging for something special. The smallest I offer is my Doors + Window Series at 3×5″. They can be hung individually and look great in sets as well. I’m only bringing 40pcs with me the Artist Project so make sure you get there and have first dibs, they tend to go fast. This latest collection will include much from rural Ontario as well as New Brunswick and NovaScotia.

The Artist Project
Posted on February 4, 2012
The Artist Project is right around the corner and I’m thrilled to be participating in it again this year. My work has grown in leaps and bounds since last year’s show as I’ve delved more heavily into beeswax application. It has really satisfied my need to combine some hands on fine art skills with photography, something I’ve been trying to do for years. Every new piece, every new show, I get a little closer to that perfect balance…. although I doubt if I’ll ever be completely satisfied, it is what drives me and I wouldn’t want to lose that motivation!
Another big difference this year is that I’ll have our wee baby with me! My husband, David Marshak, will be showing directly across from me and we’ll be sharing baby and business duties for the duration of the show. It should be fun, he’s a charmer and handsome little man if I do say so myself.
Join me for the opening reception on Thursday, March 1st, 6-10pm BOOTH #730
As for the show details, they are as follows;
The Artist Project is a rendezvous for artists, art collectors, dealers and enthusiasts. Now in its fifth year, The Artist Project returns to the Queen Elizabeth Building at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.

November Tales
Posted on November 6, 2011
The AGH show went well, thanks to all who came out! Its nice to see so many new faces… from artists to curators to clients. The preview night was a blast, I was there with my newborn, taking him to his first ever art exhibition! Its been a wonderful challenge, balancing motherhood and work. I haven’t been out to the studio much (or at all!!) since he’s been born, but I have dusted off the old medium format film camera and have taken some photographs I’m really excited about. My next big show will be the Artist Project, March 1st – 4th, for which I’ll be creating a new body of work…. My film will be processed this week so hopefully I find some winners in there to work with. Of course there will be trees, skies, water and weeds…. I can’t help but be drawn to the same subject matter over and over, and I can’t help but to be just as excited every time!
The new studio space is well under way, so for those of you who want to take a nice country drive and have a preview of all my new work before its grand release… just let me know.
And for those of you who haven’t seen my work in a while, be sure to check out the Alison Milne Gallery from November 11th – December 18th!! I’ll be posting the show info shortly!

Distillery Show Wrapped Up!
Posted on August 5, 2011
If you were one of the wonderful folks who came out last weekend to see the show Artisans at the Distillery, I thank you! It was a great show with a fantastic turnout. Yes, it was a scorcher of a weekend, but my booth was facing north so at least I was shaded. The Distillery also offered a delicous variety of foods and snacks so even though I packed my lunch each day, I didn’t touch it till dinner.
There were about 30 vendors spread throughout the historical brick streets of the Distillery over the entire long weekend. It was a great chance to chat with other artists, gallery owners, art collectors and more. Festivals like these always provide great opportunities to find out about other shows, art spaces and show ideas from other artists in similar and different fields. I also found it wonderful to see a few other artists working their booths with a baby in their arms or toddler at their feet. Ahh… it can be done!
For those of you who haven’t been to my last few shows, you may not have seen my photo-encasutic works. I had been experiementing with encaustics over the past couple of years very slowly and tenderly, but decided to dive in this year as its much less toxic to work with than resin… I have also been surprized at how much I am loving this new medium, and how its allowing me to work with my imagery the way I always envisioned. Next up…. a show at Arta Gallery starting August 17 and the Queen West Art Crawl September 16-18th. I’ll be posting more details soon…
